Research is embedded in the SGH Renal Department’s mission. Our clinician-scientists and partners focus on translational, clinical and healthcare service research aligned with our institution’s commitment to precision healthcare and improve outcomes for patients with renal disease.

Major Focus Areas:

• General Nephrology: Studies on chronic kidney disease progression, diabetic nephropathy, and glomerulonephritis outcomes.
• Critical Care Nephrology: Investigations into acute kidney injury and extracorporeal therapies in ICU settings.
• Dialysis Innovation: Research into wearable dialysis devices (e.g. AWAK), access preservation technologies, and cost-effective care models.
• Glomerulonephritis: Collaborates with Rheumatology, Genetics, and Oncology specialists, offering personalised treatment, genetic assessment, and access to clinical trials and translational research to optimise patient outcomes.
• Transplant Research: Studies include immunosuppressive regimen optimisation, cellular therapies, and biomarkers for non-invasive monitoring. Collaborations span Duke-NUS, A*STAR, and global academic centres.

We also contribute to health services research, quality improvement, and training programmes that shape nephrology practice regionally and internationally.
