Haemodialysis

Synonym(s):

At the Forefront for Haemodialysis Care for Over Six Decades

Since pioneering haemodialysis in Singapore in 1961 and establishing the nation’s first dedicated dialysis unit by 1969, SGH has stood at the forefront of haemodialysis care. Today, we operate the largest inpatient dialysis facility in Singapore, continuing a legacy of innovation and excellence.

Advanced Haemodialysis Therapies Tailored to You

Our experienced multidisciplinary team delivers a comprehensive range of advanced renal replacement therapies, tailored to each patient’s specific condition and needs. These include:

  • Haemodiafiltration (HDF): An advanced dialysis technique combining diffusive and convective therapies to more effectively remove a wider range of toxins from blood
  • Expanded Haemodialysis (HDx): A newer dialysis technique that removes a broader spectrum of toxins, especially for patients with complex conditions like multiple myeloma
  • Slow Low-Efficiency Dialysis (SLED): A gentler dialysis approach used in critically ill patients, allowing gradual removal of toxins and fluid with better tolerance
  • Therapeutic Plasmapheresis and Immunoadsorption: Specialised treatments that remove harmful antibodies or proteins, often used for autoimmune and blood-related conditions

Inpatient Haemodialysis Centre

Our inpatient Haemodialysis Centre features 43 in-centre dialysis stations. Together with our mobile dialysis units, we are able to provide both acute and chronic hemodialysis treatments to hospitalised patients throughout the hospital.  This includes patients in General Ward, as well as those in High Dependency and Intensive Care Units. Our comprehensive setup ensures timely, safe and personalised care tailored to each patient’s medical needs.

Haemodialysis Disease Management Clinic

At SGH, we are committed to holistic, longitudinal care through our Haemodialysis Disease Management Clinic (DMC). This clinic supports patients beyond hospital discharge, by providing ongoing follow-up, education and seamless continuity of care in the community, including close coordination with satellite dialysis centres.
