EBV EA & VCA IgA Panel

​3 – 5 mL plain blood.

(a) To diagnose acute infection, send single sample for EBV VCA IgM and second serum taken 10 – 14 days later if indicated.

(b) To diagnose previous infection, send single sample for EBV VCA IgG.

(c) To screen and aid in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), send blood for EBV EA & VCA IgA Panel.

​Refrigerate samples if delay in transporting to laboratory is anticipated. Do not freeze.

​EBV VCA IgM & IgG: Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay

EBV EA & VCA IgA Panel: Immunofluorescence assay

​Acute infection: EBV VCA IgM positive or paired sera showing seroconversion

Previous (latent) infection: EBV VCA IgG positive
                                                                                                                     

EBV-EA IgA: Negative or Positive (Titre) 

EBV-VCA IgA: Negative or Positive (Titre) 

The assay performance was validated in our laboratory in accordance with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) guidelines.

​EBV VCA IgM/IgG : <1 – 4 days

EBV EA & VCA IgA Panel : <1 - 7 days

​EBV VCA IgM/IgG : Tuesday and Friday

EBV EA & VCA IgA Panel : Wednesday morning
