​Enquiries and Consultations

Client and Specimen Management staff of the Division of Pathology are well trained to handle enquiries regarding types of tests available, service hours, types of supplies available, stat/emergency tests, sample collection, handling and transportation, unacceptable samples, test results, payment and many others. Enquiries on status of laboratory tests as well as more specialised information will be directed to the relevant laboratories.
 
Requests for interpretation of test results, and consultations will be referred to the appropriate professional staff of the relevant laboratory discipline.
 
Enquiries and consultations concerning haematological, cytogenetics and blood transfusion investigations should be made direct to the Department of Haematology Laboratory, Cytogenetics Laboratory and Blood Bank Laboratory, respectively.

Office Hours

The operating hours of the Sections/Laboratories at Division of Pathology and Department Haematology Department are:

Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 5.00 pm
8.30 am – 5.30 pm  (Cytology Lab)
8.30 am – 5.30 pm  (Virology Lab)
8.30 am – 5.30 pm  (Immunology & Serology Lab) 
Saturday 8.00 am – 1.00 pm
8.30 am – 1.00 pm    (Cytology Lab)
8.30 am – 12.30 pm  (Virology Lab)
8.30 am – 12.30 pm  (Immunology & Serology Lab)

 

Routine/non-emergency and stat/emergency tests should be requested during office hours whenever possible. Stat/emergency tests are those the results of which are needed for immediate treatment and management of the patients. They are performed as soon as the samples reach the relevant laboratories. Please do not send non-emergency samples collected after office hours or on weekends as emergency requests, but instead send them on the following weekday.

Daily 24-Hour Service

Our routine Blood Bank, Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Bacteriology laboratories operate 24 hours daily to perform routine and stat/emergency tests. Selected microbiology tests are provided on an emergency basis for patients undergoing organ transplantation. Please refer to the list of “Stat/Emergency Tests” before ordering such tests.
