Stroke Support Group

Synonym(s):

A stroke can be a life-changing event that affects not only physical health, but also a person’s emotional well-being, independence, and daily life. Recovery after a stroke often involves a period of adjustment, where patients and their families learn to cope with new challenges while working towards rehabilitation and long-term health.

The SGH Stroke Support Group aims to provide a platform for stroke survivors to share their experiences, while also serving as an educational resource to reinforce the importance of managing stroke risk factors. In addition, the group offers psychosocial and emotional support to help stroke survivors and their caregivers cope with the challenges of recovery.

This support group brings together patients and caregivers in a safe and supportive environment, where individuals can connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Through shared conversations and guided sessions, the group encourages participants to feel less isolated and more empowered in their recovery journey. Support groups within SGH are designed to provide emotional and psychological support, helping patients and caregivers navigate life after a major medical event.

Who this is for

  • Participation is open to stroke patients who are currently under the care of SGH
  • Family members and caregivers supporting a loved one recovering from stroke

How we help patients with stroke

  • A platform for patients to share their experiences and connect with others on similar recovery journeys
  • Educational sessions to reinforce the importance of managing stroke risk factors and long-term health
  • Psychosocial support to help patients and caregivers cope with emotional challenges following a stroke
  • Opportunities for peer interaction, fostering a sense of community and encouragement during recovery

The sessions are designed to complement clinical care by addressing the emotional and social aspects of recovery. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their experiences, learn from others, and gradually rebuild confidence as they adapt to changes in their daily lives.

By fostering connection and ongoing engagement, the group supports patients and caregivers in navigating recovery with greater resilience, while reinforcing the importance of long-term lifestyle adjustments and stroke prevention.
