Spinal Cord Injury Support Group

Synonym(s):

A spinal cord injury (SCI) is a life-altering event that impacts every aspect of a person’s world - physically, emotionally, and socially. For many patients and families, this sudden change may bring feelings of loss, uncertainty, and worry about the future.

Our Spinal Cord Injury Support Group was created to provide understanding, connection, and support for people living with SCI, as well as their families and caregivers. We offer a safe and respectful space where individuals can meet others who truly understand the everyday realities of life after a spinal cord injury - from managing physical changes to coping with the emotional impact of adjusting to a new way of life.

Through shared experiences and peer connections, we aim to support patients and families throughout their rehabilitation journey. Our group does not replace medical or rehabilitation care. Instead, we focus on the emotional, social, and practical aspects of living with SCI, helping individuals feel supported, empowered, and less alone as they work towards rebuilding confidence and finding meaning in everyday life.

Who this is for

  • SGH patients with a spinal cord injury
  • Family members and caregivers supporting a SGH patient with a spinal cord injury

How we support spinal cord Injury patients and their families

  • Peer‑to‑peer emotional support in a safe, no‑pressure environment
  • Opportunities to connect with others who understand the daily challenges of living with SCI
  • Practical tips related to daily life, self‑care, and adjustment after injury
  • Counselling, education, and emotional support to help patients and families cope with change and loss of independence

Our group helps to empower patients and their families by encouraging self‑care, confidence‑building, and gradual reintegration into the community. By listening, sharing, and learning together, we aim to support individuals through rehabilitation and beyond, reminding each person that they are not alone in this journey.

You may choose to share openly or simply listen during sessions - both are equally welcome, and support is offered at a pace that feels right for you. Every step forward matters, and we are here to take it with you.
