Scoliosis Support Group

Synonym(s):

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves sideways, often developing during childhood or adolescence, though it can also affect adults. Living with scoliosis can bring physical discomfort as well as emotional challenges - from worries about treatment options such as bracing or surgery, to concerns about body image and long‑term health.

Our peer-to-peer support group, a scoliosis support network, was created to offer understanding, connection, and encouragement for people affected by scoliosis. Our group is supported by a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including spine specialists, nurses, and physiotherapists, working together with patients and families who have firsthand experience of the condition. Our aim is to provide a safe, inclusive, and compassionate space where individuals can share experiences, learn from one another, and feel less alone at every stage of the scoliosis journey.

By bringing people together, our support group seeks to reduce isolation, promote resilience, and empower patients and caregivers with shared knowledge and emotional support. While our group does not replace medical care, it complements clinical treatment by addressing the emotional and social aspects of living with scoliosis. Find your strength in curves today!

Who this is for

  • Individuals living with scoliosis - including those who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or recovering from surgery
  • Parents, caregivers, and family members supporting a loved one with scoliosis

Participants are welcome to join at any point in their journey - whether they are seeking information, emotional support, or an opportunity to connect with others who have similar experiences.

How we help

We offer support through a range of patient‑centred activities, including:

  • Peer‑to‑peer support, where individuals and families can share experiences and concerns in a supportive environment
  • Opportunities to learn practical coping strategies related to diagnosis, bracing, surgery, and recovery
  • Knowledge‑sharing and encouragement from others who have walked a similar path
  • Virtual meetings and phone consultations to improve accessibility

Sessions focus on open sharing and mutual support, allowing participants to ask questions, listen to others, or simply feel heard in a safe space.

Participation details, including how to join and what to expect from a typical session, can be shared when you contact the group. There is no requirement to commit long‑term, and individuals may take part in ways that feel comfortable for them.

Volunteers welcome

We encourage individuals who have experienced scoliosis bracing or surgery, as well as parents and caregivers, to consider joining us as volunteers. Your lived experience is invaluable. By sharing your personal journey - the challenges, the adjustments, and the successes - you can offer reassurance, hope, and practical insights to others who may be facing difficult decisions. Your story can make a meaningful difference and help foster a stronger, more compassionate community.
