Haematopoietic Cell Therapy and Transplant Programme (HCTTP) Support Group

A stem cell transplant is an important and often complex part of treatment for some malignant haematological (blood‑related) disorders. For many patients and families, the transplant journey can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging, involving long periods of preparation, recovery, and adjustment.

The HCTTP Support Group was established in 2019 to support patients who are diagnosed with malignant haematological disorders and require a stem cell transplant. The group was created to provide encouragement, understanding, and shared experiences for patients and caregivers at different stages of the transplant journey.

This is a peer‑to‑peer support group that brings together individuals who have already undergone a stem cell transplant with those who are preparing for one. The aim of the group is to motivate, reassure, and support patients and caregivers throughout the transplant journey, helping them feel less alone and more supported during this significant life experience.

How we help patients with haematological disorders

• Peer‑to‑peer sharing, where patients who have undergone a transplant support and encourage pre‑transplant patients
• Regular meetings among peer supporters to strengthen mutual support and shared understanding
• Activities focused on psychoeducation, helping patients and caregivers better understand and cope with the emotional aspects of the transplant journey
• Opportunities for team bonding and connection among patients, caregivers, and peer supporters

The group focuses on emotional support, shared experiences, and encouragement rather than medical treatment. Patients who have already gone through transplant play an important role in offering practical insights, reassurance, and hope to those who are earlier in their journey.

Support group activities aim to create a safe and understanding environment where patients and caregivers can talk openly, learn from others, and draw strength from shared experiences as they navigate the challenges of stem cell transplantation.
