Blossom Support Group

Synonym(s):

Being diagnosed with breast cancer can feel overwhelming - many patients and families tell us they feel frightened, uncertain, or lost about what lies ahead. This support group is for you if you have questions, worries about treatment, or simply need someone who understands what you are going through. Our aim is to support you through this journey.

The Blossom Support Group was started in 1992 to support patients who have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer. We are supported and guided by SGH Breast Care Nurses (BCNs), and the heart of our group is made up of breast cancer survivors themselves. They understand the emotional and physical challenges first-hand and offer a listening ear, encouragement, and hope.

Some members are trained as Blossom Ambassadors (BAs), who work closely with SGH BCNs to visit and support patients within SGH. A typical support interaction focuses on listening and sharing. Patients may meet survivors who share what helped them cope emotionally, how they managed treatment side effects, and how they found strength during difficult moments. Many patients find comfort simply knowing that someone else has walked this path and is willing to walk alongside them.
