Description

Indications

Specimen Required

​Bronchoalveolar lavage or washings are preferred specimens. Bronchial brushings or sputum may be submitted, but the diagnostic cell yield is lower. Send neat specimens (see General Instruction). Fix submitted smears with spray fixative or fix in 95% ethanol. Write "To evaluate for Pneumocystis Carinii or Pneumocystis Jiroveci Pneumonia on the CPOE request.
