Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Synonym(s):

The SGH Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is located within the largest hospital in Singapore, and we provide individualised and high-quality care for women from the reproductive age to menopause and beyond. Our medical teams have vast clinical experience and expertise, and we have particular strengths in looking after patients with infertility, high-risk pregnancies and complex gynaecological cancers.

The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre (O&G) at the Singapore General Hospital delivers a full range of sub-specialties within the obstetrics and gynaecology practice, dedicated to the growing health needs of women, from puberty to after menopause.

This one-stop centre allows patients to receive comprehensive care of their medical condition(s), through cross consultations with the various sub-specialists seamlessly.

Services available

Obstetrics

Our caring and highly trained team of doctors, midwives, sonographers, physiotherapists and lactation nurses provide a comprehensive range of maternity services and support. These including Antenatal and Postnatal care, first trimester screening, specialised ultrasound scans, delivery and breastfeeding support.

High-Risk Pregnancy

We have extensive experience in caring for patients with medical problems and complicated pregnancies; and frequently receive referrals from other centres in Singapore. Our dedicated Centre for High Risk Pregnancy (CHiRP) located at Prenatal Diagnostic Centre (PDC) provides a one-stop multidisciplinary tertiary integrated care service for high risk pregnancies, optimising pre-pregnancy care and counselling for prospective mothers with risk factors. We also have specialised Joint Clinics to care for patients with diabetes, cardiac, rheumatology, haematology, renal and chronic medical disorders.

Gynaecology

We offer Gynaecology services at our outpatient Obstetrics & Gynaecology Centre and our inpatient wards. These include common gynaecological conditions such as menstrual disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, urinary symptoms, pelvic organ prolapse and vaginal discharge.

Gynaecological Oncology

We care for patients with both early and advanced ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal and vulval cancers. We have expertise in both conventional, minimally invasive surgical and robotic surgery. We are a tertiary referral centre for oncology patients with advanced cancers and coexisting medical conditions. Our team also provides outpatient cervical screening and colposcopy services to see and treat patients with pre-invasive cervical disease.

Reproductive Medicine/Infertility

The Centre for Reproductive Medicine (CARE) offers the full range of fertility assessment services and assisted reproductive procedures. Our team of reproductive specialists, embryologists, sonographers and nurses believe in individualising treatment to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients.

Urogynaecology

Our urogynaecology team looks after patients with pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infection, urinary incontinence and complex pelvic floor disorders. We provide outpatient consultation and treatment, urodynamics services and surgical care e.g. tension-free vaginal tape, prolapse repair, sacrospinous fixation and Burch colposuspension.

Ultrasound Services

Ultrasound services are integral to O&G and our team of experienced sonographers provide a comprehensive service. Established in 1987, the team has expanded their service of performing ‘routine’ gynaecological scans to performing specialised scans in the Centre for Assisted Reproduction (CARE), Prenatal Diagnostic Centre (PDC) and the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU).
