Pre-Admission Assessments

Pre-admission Procedures

Patients admitting to the Singapore General Hospital for elective (planned) surgery under general anaesthesia will be referred to the Pre-Admission Centre (PAC) for pre-surgery counselling, risk assessment and health optimisation.

Each patient's journey through the PAC may differ slightly. You may expect to go through some, or all the following activities:

  • Financial counselling, where you will be advised on your surgery's estimated cost and we will explore the financing options available to you.
  • Assessment by our nurses, who will ask you a series of questions and perform tests to gain a better understanding of your physical condition.
  • Blood tests, ECGs and chest X-rays as required.
  • Consultation with our doctors, who will advise you on the risks of anaesthesia and provide recommendations on how you may better prepare for your surgery. These recommendations may include referrals to physiotherapists or to other doctors for management of a condition you have.
  • Education by our nurses, who will advise you on preparations for post-surgery recovery in the hospital and at home.

Your appointment at PAC will take about half a day to complete
