Specimen Required	Induced sputum samples are collected by pulmonary function or respiration therapy staff after patients have used appropriate cleansing procedures to reduce oral contamination. It must be correctly done by well-trained staff using 3% sodium chloride solution. The induced sputum sample is often mucoid and salivary in appearance and is less sensitive than BAL in general. Organisms are rarely detected in expectorated sputum
