Notable specialised clinical services that we support:
We are always looking for collaboration and opportunities to push boundaries in neuroimaging. Besides novel imaging techniques such as MRI Nigrosome, other notable areas in innovation and research include 3D printing, AI applications, neurodegenerative disease, and many others.
With our large volume of routine and complex cases, ranging from settings in community and acute care to tertiary care, SGH Department of Neuroradiology provides a rich learning environment for residents and fellows interested in pursuing a career in clinical neuroradiology and research.
The head and neck imaging service in SGH is committed to providing top-notch patient care. Besides being the de facto head and neck imaging centre in SGH, our section receives referrals from other national specialty centres within the cluster. We work closely with the clinicians to deliver precision care for all our patients with multidisciplinary clinical meetings and collaborations.
With state-of-the-art equipment, we diagnose a wide range of intricate eye, ear, nose, throat and neck conditions. This includes the use of MRI, MRI Neurography, MRI sialography, MRI endolymphatic hydrops, DECT, 4D CT parathyroid, dacrocystography and general radiology. In addition to clinical care, we believe in innovation, research, and education for advancement in this field.

Our team of specialists are here to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
The SGH NIR service delivers collaborative, evidence-based care to patients with neurovascular and head & neck vascular conditions, using modern image guidance through minimally invasive, ‘keyhole’ techniques. This team of specialised neuroradiologist, neurointerventional nurses and radiographers performs upwards of 500 procedures every year (endovascular or percutaneous) here in SGH. More than half of these are often life-saving procedures performed in an emergency setting.
Conditions treated by the SGH NIR team:
Procedures performed by the SGH NIR team:
The patients treated by the service are managed in a multidisciplinary team setting, comprising specialities including - but not limited to - Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Oro-maxillofacial Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery et cetera. This ensures that the patients treated receive a high degree of holistic care.
In addition to SGH, the NIR team also cater to the needs of Singapore’s largest paediatric hospital – KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital – in managing paediatric neurovascular diseases.
The team is one of the first institutions to routinely perform neurovascular procedures via the transradial approach (TRA), an established approach in cardiology, but novel in the NIR field due to its unique challenges.
Fellowship positions are available, open to international candidates embarking on the exciting career of neurointervention. For more information, please contact Dr Chia Ghim Song, neurointerventional radiologist @ chia.ghim.song@singhealth.com.sg
