Objectives

The main objectives of the GROSS initiatives are to:

Energise colleagues by removing non-value added work and focusing more on meaningful work;
Empower colleagues to make positive changes at work; and
Enable colleagues to regain control of their work and lives.

Submission Criteria

What to submit

Projects completed between January 2024 to March 2026.
Personal/individual, team, department or division level projects are eligible.
Must be aligned to the GROSS is SIMPLE Tool!

**Please note that we are not accepting GROSS ideas this year.

Evaluation Process

How it works

Submit your completed GROSS projects during the call period (as many as you like!)
The organising committee will review all submissions and may reach out if further clarification is required.
Qualified submissions will be evaluated by a GROSS panel based on the scoring criteria of 50% Impact and 50% Joy.
The top 10 projects will be contacted—just keep an eye out for our golden email!

Prizes and Acknowledgement

Qualified submissions will be in the running for the following prizes:

10 x Golden Trash Cans

All other submissions will receive a certificate of acknowledgement to recognise your GROSS efforts and encourage you to be even GROSSer next time!

Deadline for submissions

All completed entries must be submitted by 3 July 2026, 5pm.

All entries that do not adhere to the (1) GROSS is SIMPLE Tool, (2) GROSS themes, (3) submitted after the deadline or (4) incomplete entries will not be qualified.

About GROSS

The Getting Rid of Stupid Stuff (GROSS) initiative originated from Hawaii Pacific Health, Honolulu, by Dr Melinda Ashton. The main driving force was because of the increasing burden of administrative tasks within their healthcare system. This resulted in lesser time for hospital staff to focus on the real work needs and deliver excellent patient care. GROSS encourages all ground staff, managers and leaders to review their existing processes, and remove meaningless tasks or tasks that provide little value.

The GROSS initiative at Hawaii Pacific Health enjoyed tremendous success especially if the submitted idea was small, controllable and implementable by the staff. This helps them to easily eliminate their daily frustrations and minimise burden in their work area.
