Who are Clinical Trial Ambassadors?

These Ambassadors are current or former clinical trial participants who are passionate about advocating for clinical trials and raising awareness about their importance. Our ambassadors are well equipped with knowledge gained from trainings curated by our department, Clinical Trials and Research Centre, SGH.

In a nutshell, the goal is to include the voice of patients in our clinical trial care through a Patient Advocacy Program.

Highlight the pivotal role of patient voices, raise awareness, foster support and encourage active participation in clinical trials.

Empower individuals with accurate information and knowledge to make well-informed decisions about their healthcare journey in context of clinical trial options.

To convene a dedicated group of knowledgeable and passionate clinical trial patients who are eager to contribute toward transforming the clinical trials landscape at SGH and across Singapore.

Common Misconceptions

Contrary to this misconception, most treatments that progress to human clinical trials have already undergone extensive preclinical testing to ensure safety.

Keeping participants safe is the top priority in clinical trials. These studies are highly regulated and carefully monitored to minimise risks and ensure the potential benefits outweigh any risks involved.

While some trials are catered to individuals with limited treatment options, many others are designed for patients in earlier stages of illness i.e. upon first diagnosis, or for healthy participants. Trials often aim to prevent disease or enhance existing treatment strategies.

Clinical trials address a wide range of health conditions, including mental health disorders, diabetes, obesity, heart diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases and infectious diseases. Even healthy individuals may participate in trials aimed at prevention or general health improvements.

Clinical trials welcome a diverse range of participants, across different ages , ethnicities, genders, and health statuses. This diversity ensures that the results are broadly applicable, and treatments are effective for a wide populations.

There are many types of clinical trials, such as interventional and observational studies. They also differ by phases (e.g., Phase 1 to Phase4), depending on the stage of the treatment development process.

On the contrary, clinical trials participants often receive close monitoring and care, which may exceed the standard care provided in day-to-day clinical practices.
