Profile

Dr Gan Wee Hoe is dually accredited in Occupational Medicine and Aviation Medicine. He is Head of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital and Senior Consultant at Changi General Hospital's Changi Aviation Medicine Centre. He is also appointed as SGH's Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO).  

Dr Gan completed his Basic Specialty Training in Internal Medicine, followed by Advanced Specialty Training in Occupational Medicine. He received his Aviation Medicine training in the United Kingdom and belonged to the pioneer batch of Aviation Medicine specialists in Singapore after the specialty's formal accreditation by the Ministry of Health in 2014. He pursued the Master of Public Health programme at the National University of Singapore and graduated with distinction, winning the Tye Cho Yook Gold Medal, the Society of Occupational Medicine Gold Medal and the Richard Gillis Prize.

Dr Gan was with the Singapore Armed Forces for more than 17 years, with his last appointment being Chief Air Force Medical Officer and concurrently Assistant Chief of Medical Corps. During his tenure, he led the transformation of PACES 3, the SAF's electronic medical records which won an award at the Health IT Excellence Award 2017.

He is a member of the Residency Advisory Committee overseeing specialist training in Occupational Medicine and Public Health, and Core Faculty of the Preventive Medicine Residency Programme. He is also a member of the Aviation Medicine Subspecialty Training Committee with oversight of specialist training in Aviation Medicine in Singapore. He sits on several Ministry of Health specialist working groups and is on the Core Group formulating technical guidelines on occupational health for the International Labour Organisation. Between April and June 2020, he was seconded to the Ministry of Health, where he served as the MOH Policy representative on the Interagency Taskforce for the management of COVID-19 in foreign worker dormitories and the migrant worker population. 

Dr Gan is the immediate past President of the Society of Aviation Medicine Singapore, Council Member of the College of Public Health and Occupational Physicians (Academy of Medicine), and Member of the Civil Aviation Medical Board. He is also a member of the national Workplace Safety and Health Council and jointly appointed by the Ministries of Health and Manpower to the Subcommittee of the Tripartite Oversight Committee on Workplace Safety & Health.
