Starting the conversation on advance healthcare directives

15 to 16 April 2021


Advance healthcare directives provide an opportunity for individuals to think ahead and prepare for the unexpected when they lose the ability to make their own decisions. Starting the conversation on advance healthcare directive is an important first step in ensuring a person’s preferences for future care is made known and respected.

There are two main focus for this course:

  • To explore your own personal values and beliefs on advance care planning, gain greater awareness on how this will influence your conversations on advance care planning with others through various activities.
  • To develop communication skills to talk about the different types of advance healthcare directives  – Advance Medical Directive, Lasting Power of Attorney, Advance Care Planning and Will.


Course Objectives:

Through this course, participants will be able to:

  • identify the types of advance healthcare directives
  • reflect on personal values and beliefs towards conversations on advance care planning
  • develop communication skills to initiate a conversation on advance healthcare directives.
