SENSE MAKING: Advance X-Ray and CT Imaging of the Chest for Physiotherapists

25 October & 1 November 2022

Imaging of the chest is a critical tool in the diagnosis and management of patients with pulmonary pathologies. Chest X-ray (CXR) and Computed Tomography (CT) of the Chest are prime diagnostic imaging technologies that facilitate accurate problem identification, prognosis, assessment, intervention, and monitoring of therapy outcomes that chest physiotherapists address on a daily basis. Cardiopulmonary physiotherapists, especially those working in on-call situations or without direct access to radiologist's reports, should acquire the skills of interpreting an unreported CXR or Chest CT as part of their physiotherapy assessment.

Building on entry level knowledge in chest imaging, this course is designed for physiotherapists with 2-3 years of working experience, whom in their practice, are required to read or interpret chest imaging on a regular basis. Over the span of 2 half-days, participants will be acquainted with the knowledge on how CXR and Chest CT images are produced. They will learn to recognise major thoracic and pulmonary anatomy on CXR and Chest CT, and distinguish between normal and abnormal radiological appearances of chest and lung pathologies. This course will enable the participants to apply the acquired knowledge in their routine clinical practice for better patient management and outcome.
