Nutritional Considerations in Patients with Pancreatitis

The two major forms of inflammatory pancreatic diseases – acute and chronic pancreatitis – are different entities which require different nutritional approaches. Timely and appropriate dietary intervention is crucial to address nutritional issues including malnutrition, potential mismatch of diet and medications, as well as patients’ misconceptions of the diet.


After the lecture, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:

  • Method(s) to screen and identify patients who are at risk of malnutrition
  • Basic knowledge of nutritional implications and intervention for patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis
  • Recent review of evidence regarding route of nutrition in patients with pancreatitis: parenteral or enteral
