Visiting a patient

Visiting your loved ones at the ward?

To ensure that our patients have enough rest, visiting hours are scheduled twice daily from 12 noon to 2.00pm and 5.00pm to 8.30pm. No visitors are allowed for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients in the isolation wards (including ARI ward) until further notice.

To Wards

  • Only 1 designated visitor per patient is allowed in the ward, for 20 minutes per day.  

  • Patients admitted for over 7 days may be allowed one more designated visitor. Only one is allowed at any one time

Visitors, including registered caregivers, who are staying in the ward for more than 20mins are required to undergo a COVID19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) at our ART Centre.

For Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Dangerously Ill List

  • Only 2 visitors per patient are allowed in the ward at any one time, for 30 minutes, per day

  • Maximum of 5 designated visitors

At our wards

  • Visitors are NOT allowed to eat or drink within the wards and should keep their masks on at all times while in the wards. They should also refrain from using patients’ toilets in the wards and avoid sitting on patients’ beds. 

  • Children below 12 years old are not allowed to visit in inpatient unless patient is in:

    • Palliative care,
    • ICU, or
    • Under special social circumstances
      (E.g. Patient is single-parent; OR patient is depressed due to prolonged inpatient stay etc. For Team Doctors, Nursing, MSW to assess, advise and inform Visitor Services ahead of visit.)

    Parents/Guardians will be required to sign an indemnity form at the Visitors Registration Counters). Validity of the Indemnity Form and approval to visit will be valid for entire admission episode.

    *Excludes Isolation, Labour and Neonatal Wards

    What is Needed:

    Ward Visitors 

    • Visitor’s name and identity card 
    • Patient’s name 
    • Patient’s ward, room and bed number 
    • A valid local mobile number 

    For infection control purposes, children below 12 years old are not permitted to visit.

    Non-Ward Visitors 

    • Visitor’s name and identity card 
    • Patient’s name and identity card number  
    • A valid local mobile number 

    Patient Information Enquiries

    If you have not informed your relatives and friends of your whereabouts in the Hospital, the Hospital's Information Counter staff will be able to assist them in locating the ward you are in.

    Alternatively, they can also call our General Enquiry line at Tel: (65) 6222 3322 to request for the information.

    Automated Visitor Management System (AVMS)

    Visitor Registration KioskThe AVMS helps to manage the number of visitors to the wards, allowing for a more convenient and hassle-free visit at SGH. The system also facilitates contact tracing for the safety of our patients and visitors when the need arises.

    Visitors to wards and visitors accompanying patients for appointments, day procedures or surgery at Level 2 are also required to register.
