TOXOPLASMA GONDII PCR (QUALITATIVE)

Description

Indications

For detection of the parasitic protozoa of Toxoplasma gondii.

This test is useful for the following conditions:
a) Diagnosis of infection in an immunocompromised patient.
b) Diagnosis of infection in a neonate born to an infected mother.
c) Diagnosis of transplacental infection in a foetus.
d) Diagnosis of endopthalmitis/retinochoroiditis.
e) Confirmation of Toxoplasma gondii diagnosis by other methods. 

Specimen Required

​(a) Blood: 5 mL blood in sterile EDTA tube.

(b) CSF or amniotic fluid: At least 0.5 mL – 1.0 mL of undiluted sample in a sterile and leak-proof screw-capped container without any additives.

(c) Fresh brain tissue of at least 5 X 5 X 5 mm sent in an empty sterile container.

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach the laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
