TETRAPLEX PCR DETECTION FOR HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS (HSV), VARICELLA-ZOSTER VIRUS (VZV), CYTOMEGALOVIRUS (CMV) AND TOXOPLASMA GONDII (QUALITATIVE)

Description

Indications

​For simultaneous detection of cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, varicella-zoster virus and Toxoplasma gondii. This test is especially useful for limited volume samples (e.g. eye fluid, CSF).

Specimen Required

​(a) Vitreous or eye tap: As much sample as possible. Collect sample in a sterile leak-proof container or in a syringe with needle removed.

(b) CSF: At least 0.5 mL of undiluted sample in a sterile and leak-proof screw-capped container without any additives.

(c) Swab for vesicles: Use Dacron-tipped swabs. Sample base of lesions vigorously and send dry in swab sheath.

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach the laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
