RESPIRATORY VIRUSES MULTIPLEX PCR (QUALITATIVE)

Description

Indications

​1) For detection of 16 common viral agents of respiratory infections, i.e. adenovirus, metapneumovirus, coronavirus 229E, NL63 and OC43, parainfluenza virus types 1,2, 3 and 4,  influenza virus types A and B, respiratory syncytial virus A and B, rhinovirus A/B/C, bocavirus and enterovirus. 

Note: If Influenza infection is strongly suspected clinically, please order for Influenza Virus Multiplex PCR (in parallel or alone) for higher sensitivity.

Specimen Required

​1) Nasal / throat / nasopharyngeal swabs / combined nasal and throat swabs (latter give better yield)
Use only Dacron-tipped or Copan flocked swab and send dry in sterile container or swab sheath.
Laryngeal swabs will be rejected.

2) Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), endotracheal aspirates and sputum samples.

Storage and Transport

​1) Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack).
2) Sample must reach laboratory within 24 hours after collection.

Remarks

​Please note that this assay may not detect certain strains of enterovirus species C and D, including EV 68 and Coxsackievirus A24.
