HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV) HIGH RISK AND HPV 16/18 GENOTYPING

Description

Indications

​(a) Used in screening patients with ASC-US (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance) Pap test results to determine the need for referral to colposcopy.

(b) Used as a first-line primary screening test, with or without cervical cytology, to identify women at increased risk for the development of cervical cancer or presence of high-grade disease, as well as to assess for the presence or absence of HPV types 16 and 18. This information, together with the physician’s assessment of the patient’s screening history, other risk factors, and professional guidelines, may be used to guide patient management.

Specimen Required

​Cervical specimens should be collected in ThinPrep® PreservCyt® Solution (Hologic Corp.) Follow the manufacturer's instructions for collecting cervical specimens.

Storage and Transport

​Samples can be stored at 2-30°C and transported to our laboratory within 1 week after collection.

Method

​Roche cobas® 4800 HPV test. The test utilises real-time polymerase chain reaction and specifically identifies types HPV16 and HPV18 while concurrently detecting the rest of the 12 high risk HPV types (31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68).
