HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV)-1 RNA AND PROVIRAL DNA PCR (QUALITATIVE)

Description

Indications

​To determine the HIV infection status in
a. Infants born to HIV positive mothers
b. Individuals whose HIV screening test by EIA/MEIA is reactive, but whose status is indeterminate or inconclusive by Western blot
c. High-risk individuals with a negative serological screen and a history of recent exposure

This test is able to detect HIV-1 group M subtypes and HIV-1 group N & O.     

Specimen Required

​3 ml of whole blood collected in EDTA anticoagulant only

Storage and Transport

​Samples should be transported and stored at 2-8 oC (do not freeze) and should reach the testing laboratory within 48 hours of collection for whole blood processing (i.e. HIV-1 proviral DNA and HIV-1 RNA detection).
