DENGUE VIRUS PCR (QUALITATIVE)

Description

Indications

​For detection of dengue virus RNA in patient's blood during the viraemic phase of the disease (typically up to 5 days after onset of symptoms).

Specimen Required

​Blood: Collect at least 5 mL blood in an EDTA container. (Best collected within first 5 days of illness).

Storage and Transport

​Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach laboratory within 24 hours after collection.

Method

​Reverse-transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (In-house Real-time) detecting all 4 dengue serotypes.
