For detection and quantitative measurement of BK virus in urine and blood samples of renal transplant and immunocompromised patients. As an adjunct for the diagnosis of BK virus associated nephropathy or haemorrhagic cystitis.
(a) Blood: Collect at least 5 mL blood in EDTA containers (b) Urine: Collect 2-10 mL of urine (first morning void)
Refrigerate sample until transfer to laboratory. Do not freeze. Send sample at 2 - 8°C (with an ice-pack). Sample must reach laboratory within 24 hours after collection.
