Predicting Challenging Round Window Anatomy for Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implantation is performed for patients with severe hearing loss, some of whom have challenging anatomy for surgery. Using a novel CT reformatting technique that simulates the surgeon’s operative view through the facial recess, Neuroradiologists collaborate with Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeons to predict difficult surgical exposures. This innovation aims to enhance operative preparedness and improve patient outcomes. Current work assessing application of this approach across a broader range of anatomical anomalies and pathologies is on-going.

Imaging Endolymphatic Hydrops in Ménière's Disease

We work closely with Otologists and set up an MRI service for patients with symptoms of Ménière's disease using delayed post-gadolinium three-dimensional (3D) inversion recovery (IR) MRI that has enabled visualization of endolymphatic hydrops in the inner ear since 2018. This serves as a foundation to aid in the evaluation of the impact of recent novel therapeutic measures that are changing the landscape for optimal care of these patients.
