SGH Division of Radiological Sciences (Div RADSC) has a strong legacy in Medical Student Education. We support the development of our future doctors in Singapore and provide opportunities to international medical students to learn more about radiology. The department has faculty appointed radiologists from all three Singapore medical schools and we work closely with SingHealth Duke-NUS Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Programme (RADSC ACP).
There are three main fields that we focus on:
Radiologists from SGH Div RADSC actively contribute new education content for students from all our partner medical schools in Singapore. In particular, we are deeply engaged with Duke-NUS Medical School on the same campus, developing new educational content to support the learning journey of medical students. Radiology teachings may be embedded in clinical rotations or standalone programs held on campus. The department leverages on a strong and dedicated group of sub-specialist radiologists with a passion for educating future doctors.
Our technology-enhanced, elective programmes are open to all local and international medical students and are run throughout the year. The international students we have hosted came from Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. We offer general and subspecialised diagnostic radiology clinical electives, research electives, as well as combined radiological sciences (RADSC) electives that are run in collaboration with interventional radiology and nuclear medicine. In-person observership rotations to various stations are supplemented with online materials created in-house.
"Great elective. Tutors were all very enthusiastic in teaching. Learned a lot and clarified a lot of misconceptions."
"My elective was initially scheduled to help me better develop an approach towards the interpretation of scans but it became an insightful experiential learning under the tutelage of the many radiologists and radiographers who were more than willing to share their wealth of experiences and wisdom with me, enabling me to take away so much more than what I expected!"
"I signed up for a radiology elective mainly for revision and exposure as I needed to learn how to interpret imaging results to be able to function in the wards. I had the opportunity to be exposed to multiple departments and areas, including general ultrasound, breast imaging, neuroradiology, body radiology including CT scan and MRI, X Rays, as well as interventional radiology. I came without any expectations because I have never been rotated through radiology department, but boy, have I learnt so much!"
“I thought that the elective was very well organised with the detailed timetable. It allowed me to rotate through all the subspecialties of radiology and gain a wide breadth of experience throughout the department. I also enjoyed how relaxed it was while still delivering a lot of important teaching.”
“The best posting I had been to so far. Materials are sufficiently provided. No lack of opportunities to explore with both diagnostic radiology and the two other subspecialties (interventional radiology and nuclear medicine). A good program for general medical students even if they are not pursuing radiology as this course equips medical students with what we need for wards in the future. Hope this course becomes a core.”
Local students studying in Singapore (Duke-NUS, YLL SoM, LKC-NTU), who are interested in doing an elective in SGH Div RADSC are encouraged to apply though their school's elective platform. Please contact Ms. Christine Tan Li Wei at christine.tan.l.w@sgh.com.sg if you wish to find out more or to get in touch with a radiologist.
Overseas medical students may apply through SGH Assistant Dean's Office through this link.

Since its inception in 2014, this fast-paced, high-impact course is built to arm medical students with the must-know radiology skills required for clinical practice. It utilises an interactive case-based format with audience response systems to showcase important and urgent radiology conditions that a house officer needs to survive (and thrive).
Pitched at a more advanced level, this dynamic, case-based course is designed to give medical students the confidence and skills to navigate emergency imaging with clarity and precision. Learn how to spot life-threatening findings in musculoskeletal, chest, abdominal, and neuroimaging, and make informed decisions about when and what to scan.
Led by experienced radiologists, this course bridges the gap between textbook learning and real-world application—perfect preparation for clinical placements, exams, and foundation year practice.
