STOOL CALPROTECTIN

Specimen Required

​Please send first morning stool. Stool specimen should be collected after stopping medications belonging to proton-pump inhibitors or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 2 weeks before test.

Send fresh stool (one teaspoon or about 10mm3 of stool) in a clean leak-proof container with a tight-fitting lid. Stool specimen should be received for processing by the laboratory within 3 days. If it is not possible to despatch the stool specimen to the laboratory within the same day, it should be kept at 2-8oC in the refrigerator.

The specimen must be collected without any chemical or biological additives. Stool mixed with transport media, preservative or urine is unsuitable for testing.

Remarks

The stool calprotectin test has not been evaluated for ileostomy fluid or stoma output.  

Patients who are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or proton pump inhibitors may have elevated stool calprotectin level.
