PELVIC WASHINGS

Collect 30 to 50 mL of fluid in a sterile container and send neat to the Cytology Laboratory. Submit Not More Than 300 mL of fluid. Subdivide large amounts of fluid into aliquots of 50 mL and DO NOT submit fluid specimens in huge containers (e.g. 5L bottle, etc) or drip bags - see Non-Gynaecological smear, fluid and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) - General Instruction for details)
