Cytomegalovirus CMI

1. 10mL blood in Lithium heparin tubes (green cap), 3 x 4ml tubes.

2. Test request is by appointment only, there are limited slots available per day.

3. Obtain samples in the morning & dispatch immediately, reaching the lab no later than 12 noon same day. Blood specimens received after 12 noon will be processed the next day which may affect results (more than 6hrs after collection).

4. Invert tube contents 8 to 10 times to ensure the whole blood is mixed thoroughly with the anticoagulant.

Note: This test should be ordered in consultation with the Infectious Diseases physicians. The results of the CMV immunoassay should be interpreted in light of the patient's clinical condition and treatment history. It may be useful to obtain baseline test (as a reference point) prior to transplantation or immunosuppressive treatment in select cases to guide management strategies. If a baseline test is performed, please indicate as "baseline" in the clinical details on the request form.

Store and transport at room temperature (18 to 25°C).

Do NOT refrigerate blood specimens at any time.

The test(s) carries an international registration mark (non-HSA) and is used in accordance to laboratory accreditation guidelines.

Notes: Results are affected by low PBMC count or if processed >6hrs after sample collection (received after cut-off time for sample processing). Results for these should be interpreted with caution.
