Chronic Pain Management PROMs in High-Risk Patients

Synonym(s):
pain management centre proms

At Singapore General Hospital’s (SGH) Pain Management Centre, Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been collected for chronic pain patients since July 2025, using the validated EQ-5D-5L questionnaire to assess patients’ health status and quality of life over time.

For the Jul – Dec 2025 data collection period, 37 of 90 high-risk patients had both baseline and six-month follow-up PROMs available for comparison. Of these patients, 62.2% either maintained or improved their EQ-5D-5L scores. High-risk patients were defined as those with an Emergency Department visit or hospital admission related to chronic pain in the preceding six months. As chronic pain patients often experience a decline in quality of life over time, maintaining or improving quality of life is an important outcome.

These findings reflect SGH’s ongoing efforts to effectively manage chronic pain, incorporate patients’ perspectives into care, and monitor outcomes that matter to patients.
