Actinium-225 (225Ac) PSMA therapy is an advanced targeted treatment for prostate cancer. This innovative therapy uses radioactive Actinium-225 attached to molecules that specifically seek out prostate cancer cells expressing PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen). This targeted approach allows for precise delivery of radiation to cancer cells whilst minimising effects on healthy tissue.
The treatment is administered through an infusion, during which our medical team will carefully monitor your vital signs. Following treatment, you may undergo Whole Body Scans to assess the distribution of the therapy.
Drink at least 1 litre of fluid daily, unless your doctor advises otherwise. Continue taking all your prescribed medications as directed.
Maintain thorough personal hygiene with daily showers and careful handwashing after toilet visits. As the treatment is partially excreted through urine, please ensure all bodily fluids are properly cleaned from surfaces and double flush the toilet after use. Wash any soiled linen separately from family laundry.
For the first two days after treatment:
Avoid impregnating your partner for six months following treatment. You may return to work when you feel well enough.
Over the next four weeks, you must carry your discharge note when travelling as you may trigger radiation detection devices at airports, public transportation facilities, and other security checkpoints due to low radiation levels. If you plan to travel overseas shortly after treatment, please request a travel memo from your doctor.
