Singapore Hyperbaric and Underwater Medicine Course (SHUMEC)

Welcome to the 16th edition of the Singapore Hyperbaric and Underwater Medicine Course (SHUMEC), jointly organised by the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

This one-week course integrates didactic lectures with site visits to the SGH Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine Centre and the RSN Naval Hyperbaric Centre. Through close RSN-SGH collaboration, the programme combines expertise in diving and hyperbaric medicine to advance clinical practice in underwater medicine.

Participants will develop a strong foundation in diving and hyperbaric medicine, including training in the assessment of divers and compressed air workers and the management of diving emergencies. Upon completion, participants practising in Singapore may apply for registration as a Designated Workplace Doctor (Compressed Air Works) with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

The SHUMEC curriculum is currently undergoing accreditation renewal for UK Diving Medicine Advisory Council (DMAC) Level 1 requirements and is delivered by an experienced faculty from RSN, SGH, and local experts.

The Asian Hyperbaric and Diving Medical Association (AHDMA) Annual Scientific Meeting will be held in Singapore from 20-23 August 2026, immediately preceding SHUMEC. Co-organised by RSN, SGH, and AHDMA, the meeting features pre-conference workshops, keynote lectures, scientific presentations, and a formal dinner. Discounts for registration fees will be available for SHUMEC participants.
