Dr Tan Hwee Leong is a Consultant at the Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary and Transplant Surgery, Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Tan graduated with MBBS(Honours) from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore as the valedictorian of the medical class of 2014. He then completed residency training in SingHealth General Surgery Residency Programme, where he obtained his Master of Medicine (Surgery) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He subsequently graduated as the valedictorian of SingHealth Residency’s 7th Graduating Cohort in 2021.
Dr Tan was awarded the National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship (NMRC RTF) in 2022 to pursue a Master of Clinical Investigation at the National University of Singapore. He maintains an active interest in clinical research in HPB surgery and has authored or co-authored multiple publications in various peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Tan’s clinical interests include minimally-invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) surgery for both benign and malignant HPB conditions. He received the International Observership to Korea (IOTK) Award in 2023 to undergo training in HPB surgery at Asan Medical Centre in Seoul, South Korea. He subsequently obtained the SingHealth/MOH Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Fellowship Award in 2024 to further his training in minimally-invasive HPB surgery at the People’s Liberation Army General Hospital in Beijing, China.
