Deputy Head and Senior Consultant
Specialty: Diagnostic Radiology
Dr Cheong Wei Kiong is a Senior Consultant Radiologist and currently serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Musculoskeletal Radiology at SGH. He also oversees Population and Community Radiology. In these roles, He plays a pivotal part in extending the reach of radiological services beyond conventional hospital settings. A key initiative under his leadership is the imminent deployment of ultra-portable X-ray systems within community settings, specifically to support patients enrolled in the Mobile In-patient Care@Home (MIC@Home) program. This initiative significantly enhances accessibility to diagnostic imaging and strengthens SGH’s outreach capabilities.
Dr Cheong's clinical and research interests focus on opportunistic screening for osteoporosis using imaging modalities such as CT and MRI, beyond the traditional bone mineral density (BMD) scan. This work aligns closely with the national Healthier SG strategy, which emphasises preventive care and early detection of chronic diseases.
Dedicated to harnessing radiology as a catalyst for population health, Dr Cheong integrates technological innovation with community-based care models to bridge care gaps and improve long-term musculoskeletal health outcomes.
