The GPFirst programme encourages patients with non-urgent, mild to moderate conditions to seek initial treatment at their General Practitioners (GPs) instead of the acute hospital's Emergency Department (ED).
By choosing to see a GP first, patients can receive timely medical treatment for their condition, allowing EDs to focus on more urgent cases requiring medical attention.
If the GP determines that further acute care is needed, they will refer the patient to the appropriate Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) or ED.
Patients referred under the GPFirst programme can also receive a $50 deduction from the prevailing UCC/ED fees to offset their GP consultation charges.
