Training and Education

Staff

To further enhance knowledge and skills development, ongoing in-house practical training and bi-monthly or monthly talks/lectures/video shows are conducted by various laboratories as part of their continuing education programmes for staff.

Participation or attendances at relevant courses, conferences, congresses or seminars conducted locally or overseas are encouraged and sponsored whenever possible.

Staff also have the opportunity of being sent abroad to well-known centres for practical attachment to keep abreast with the latest developments in their fields.

The Divsion of Pathology has its own library of books, journals and periodicals for staff information, reference and research.

Medical Trainees

The Division of Pathology continues to be the major postgraduate training centre for doctors preparing for membership/fellowship in anatomic pathology, chemical pathology and microbiology (includes bacteriology, immunology and virology). It is the examination centre in Singapore for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Many trainees have since qualified and are working in the division or in other hospitals and laboratories in Singapore and other countries.

Other Personnel

The Pathology Division has established itself as a training centre in laboratory medicine in this region. It has been receiving laboratory personnel like doctors, scientists and technicians each year from overseas for practical laboratory attachments.

Professional staff from the department are also involved in the teaching programmes of doctors, medical and science students, student nurses and postgraduate nurses.
