Education Programmes


The Autoimmunity & Rheumatology Centre (ARC) enables provision of an excellent learning experience while cultivating professionalism and team development through innovative teaching methodologies. Teaching medical students and doctor’s training to specialise in Autoimmunity and Rheumatology by having structured education programmes ensures that future generations of specialists can continue to deliver the best care possible benchmarked against international standards. More information on the department's education initiatives is available here.

Undergraduate Education

  • Undergraduate education includes the teaching of students from Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine NUS, other upcoming local medical schools as well as international medical students from the Asia , Great Britain and Europe, Australia, as well as the Middle East.
  • The Musculoskeletal Core Rotation, a novel curriculum for final year Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School was jointly designed by the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology with 3 other SGH departments. Through an objective and validated assessment, the novel curriculum was well received by the medical students and faculty.

Postgraduate Education

  • Postgraduate training programmes in the Department includes advanced training for doctors specialising in Rheumatology for which the department is accredited for, as well as PhD students. The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology contributes to the Singhealth Residency programme and continuing medical education programmes for Family Physicians.

  • In December 2013, the department achieved accrediation from the US Accrediation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I) for Rheumatology senior residency. This accreditation is testimony of our dedication towards medical education and training of the next generation of Rheumatologists.
