Research in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Despite many conventional synthetic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologics, and small molecules, many patients with rheumatoid arthritis still fail to reach complete remission.
SGH Department of Rheumatology & Immunology (RHI) may embark on pharmaceutical company sponsored clinical trials or investigator-initiated studies in rheumatoid arthritis, which could be in the field of biomarkers and therapeutics.

About Research Focus Area

Our research projects include:

  • Improving the care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis by innovating management strategies, improving the knowledge of the disease, developing biomarkers for diagnosis and prognostication and identifying new potential treatment targets.

  • Studying and gaining further insight into the utility of modern imaging (e.g. musculoskeletal ultrasound) to improve patient outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis

  • Clinical trial comparing the outcomes between different methods of injection using ultrasound guidance for frozen shoulder, which is an extremely common condition causing pain and functional debilitation.
