Neonatal and Developmental Medicine - Clinical Services

Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals cares for severely ill newborn babies including those born extremely preterm and unwell babies needing support after birth.  This can take place in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency (HD) unit or Nursery. We believe in care that is holistic and family-centered, as well as provision of developmental care for the preterm.

We provide all modalities of ventilation (invasive and non-invasive), surfactant replacement therapy, inhaled nitric oxide therapy, parenteral nutrition, antibiotic therapy, phototherapy, treatment of PDA, hypothermic neuro-protection and cerebral function monitoring in the NICU. All newborns undergo a screening program including screening for G6PD deficiency, congenital hypothyroidism, hearing impairment and inborn errors of metabolism.  Very Low Birth Weight infants are also screened for retinopathy of prematurity. Where needed, babies may require feeding assessment/support, physiotherapy and radiological services. We continue to follow-up our NICU graduates at the outpatient clinics to monitor their nutrition, growth, developmental milestones, behavior and administer routine vaccinations in accordance with the National Childhood Immunization Schedule Singapore.
