As Singapore General Hospital (SGH) turns 200 this year, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery aims to raise $400,000 to help 200 less privileged elderly Singaporeans in our community regain mobility with total knee replacements.
Osteoarthritis is a disabling condition affecting people aged 50 and above. Patients with osteoarthritis have difficulties in movement and daily activities like walking and climbing stairs. Even while resting, they experience severe pain in their knees. Yet, some of our patients try to live with the difficulties as they cannot afford the cost for the necessary medical care. The procedure costs from $1,916 onwards can be prohibitive for some patients, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Total knee replacement is the gold standard when non-surgical options are no longer effective. Studies have reported that over 90% of patients are still able to function normally 20 years following their knee replacements.
100% of your gift will go towards helping the less privileged patients with the out of pocket expenses for the needed medical care like X-rays, implants and rehabilitative services. Your gift will help these patients regain their mobility, integrate back to society and leave a lasting impact on our patients and their families. Every dollar makes a difference.
