Medical Chaperon

In collaboration with Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (Medical Escort and Transport Services)

med chaperon.png

Although social service organizations provide medical escort services, demand for services often exceeds supply, and the waiting time to receive an escort can be up to three months. This results in delayed care and follow-up, which may be harmful to patients' health.

You can make a significant impact in these patients' care by volunteering to be a medical chaperon and ensuring their timely attendance of hospital appointments!

The Medical Chaperon Experience
  1. A medical transport provider from Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities will pick up the patient from home and drop them off at an SGH lobby.
  2. You will receive the patient at the drop-off lobby and bring them to their scheduled appointment(s) within SGH Campus by pushing them on a wheelchair.
  3. You will accompany the patient throughout the entire duration of the appointment(s).
  4. After the appointment(s), you will bring the patient to the designated SGH lobby for the medical transport provider to fetch the patient home.

The whole experience takes 2 hours on average. However, we recommend that volunteers set aside 4 hours per chaperoning activity in case of unforeseen circumstances (e.g. the patient's appointment takes longer than expected).
