Oversea-Student Elective Programs

Singapore General Hospital (SGH) accepts students from recognized overseas medical schools for elective postings. These students must be in their clinical training years and will be accepted as Special Clinical Students. The applications of these electives are through the National University of Singapore (NUS-Medicine) or direct application with SGH.

Over the years, we have trained students from many countries including UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The elective postings may range from a minimum period of two (2) weeks to a maximum of eight (8) weeks.

In recognition of the hospital's teaching role, the Ministry of Health has appointed a senior clinician in SGH to be the Clinical Educator Lead (CEL). The CEL supervises the medical teaching programs, assesses the progress of trainees and serves as a mentor to the trainees. Our SGH's senior clinicians are appointed as clinical faculty of the medical schools.
