Profile

​Associate Professor Agnes Tan graduated from the University of Singapore in 1980 and trained in Orthopaedic/Hand Surgery under Prof N Balachandran and Prof SK Tan. She then trained for another year in Advanced Hand Surgery in UK and Switzerland before returning to join the Department of Hand Surgery in 1991. Dr Agnes Tan is the first surgeon to be exit-certified in Hand Surgery in Singapore.

She was appointed Consultant in 1993, Senior Consultant in 1998 and subsequently Head of Department in 2003. She relinquished the headship position in April 2009 and was then appointed Director Medical Affairs, SGH. She was appointed Associate Professor in Duke-NUS Medical School and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in Aug 2009. In Oct 2010 Assoc Prof Agnes Tan was appointed Chairman Division ACSS, SGH.

Besides clinical work, Assoc Prof Agnes Tan has a strong interest in training and development of young doctors, and change management to improve service quality, processes and patients’ experience.

She was a member of the Specialist Training Committee (Hand Surgery) since 2004 and was appointed Chairperson of the STC (Hand Surgery) from Sept 2006 to Dec 2008. She is currently a member of the Residency Advisory Committee (Hand Surgery), MOH.

Assoc Prof Agnes Tan’s sub-specialty interests include microsurgery, congenital hand surgery and hand trauma.
