Profile

A/Prof Lynette Oon is a Senior Consultant clinical microbiologist with a special interest in molecular microbiology and molecular pathology. She obtained her MBBS medical degree in the University of London and spent 2.5 years training in internal medicine in London before heading back to Singapore for her clinical microbiology training. She has been the Head of the Molecular Laboratory Section in the Department (now Division) of Pathology in the Singapore General Hospital since 2006 where she helped to develop its range of molecular tests in microbiology, detection of mutations in somatic cancers as well as pharmacogenomics molecular tests. She also holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School. She was Head of the Department of Molecular Pathology, Singapore General Hospital from June 2016 to November 2023 when she led the department to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and was Academic Vice-Chair (Clinical Quality and Innovation) in the Pathology Academic Clinical Programme, SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre from 2017-2023. In addition, she is actively involved in the field of biological safety. She is the Director of the SingHealth Office of Biosafety and chairs the SingHealth Institutional Biosafety Committee which oversees biological safety in research within SingHealth.
