Dr Alvin Ngeow graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 2007, having earned a place on the Dean’s List for the academic year 2004/2005. In 2010, he entered the Paediatric Medicine Seamless Training program, offered by the Joint Commission on Specialist Training (JCST), which honed his expertise in advancing child health. He completed his Master of Medicine (Singapore) in Paediatric Medicine in 2012 and simultaneously became a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
During his advanced training, Dr. Ngeow served as Chief Registrar from 2014 to 2015. He completed his Advanced Specialist Training at KK Women and Children’s Hospital and a neonatal fellowship at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Dr. Ngeow holds dual accreditation from JCST in Paediatric Medicine and Neonatology. In 2020, he was awarded the Ministry of Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) Grant, which funded his fellowship focusing on Clinician Performed Ultrasound at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne. Notably, he is the first clinician from Singapore to earn the Certificate of Clinician Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) in Advanced Neonatal Ultrasound, including cerebral, cardiac, and abdominal studies, as well as Neonatal Lung Ultrasound, from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM).
A dedicated advocate for advancing medical knowledge, Dr. Ngeow is passionate about clinical research and innovation. He completed a Biostatistics course in 2012 and has represented Singapore General Hospital at numerous conferences. His research on early versus late term infants earned him the Best Poster Award at the inaugural Singapore Paediatric & Perinatal Annual Congress (ISPPAC) 2012. He has presented his findings at prominent international conferences, including the PSANZ Congress in 2012 and the European Academy of Paediatric Societies (EAPS) Congress in Barcelona in October 2014. Notably, his study on the prevalence and diagnosis of congenital heart disease in Asia was presented at the EAPS Congress.
Dr. Ngeow’s research on congenital heart disease screening won him first prize for oral presentation in the perinatal category in August 2018. In October 2022, he received the Outstanding Clinical Research Award at the SGH Annual Scientific Meeting for his work on validating a smartphone-based application for neonatal jaundice screening. He is the Principal Investigator of the multi-centre study, “Development and Validation of a Smartphone-Based Artificial Intelligence Application for the Screening of Neonatal Jaundice”.
In addition to his research, Dr. Ngeow is committed to education, earning the NUS Role Model Award in 2014 and the SingHealth Outstanding Faculty Award in 2021. His dedication to patient safety was recognized with the SGH Safety Team Award in 2022.
Dr. Ngeow’s compassionate care for patients and colleagues is reflected in his receipt of the Service with a Heart Award in 2018 and 2023, and the Genuine Care Award in 2023.
