Profile

Associate Professor Wei-Qiang Leow is currently a senior consultant pathologist at the Department of Anatomical Pathology, Division of Pathology, Singapore General Hospital. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2006 and did his postgraduate training in Histopathology with the then Histopathology and Cytology Sections, Department of Pathology, Singapore General Hospital. He was awarded the fellowships from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and Academy of Medicine Singapore in 2015. His interests are in liver, pancreaticobiliary and gastrointestinal pathology.

In 2016, he was awarded the SingHealth Health Manpower Development Plan to pursue advanced diagnostic training and research in hepatopancreatobiliary pathology and liver cancers at the Mount Sinai Liver Cancer Program at the Tisch Cancer Institute, under the tutelage of Professors Swan N. Thung and Josep M. Llovet respectively. The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, is the only National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center in the United States with a dedicated liver cancer program. 

He has strong research interests in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and colorectal carcinoma. He has co-authored over 50 peer reviewed articles, and has co-written the textbook titled “Atlas of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Pathology”. He is an ad-hoc reviewer for Histopathology, Clinical Cancer Research, Molecular Cancer Research and other medical journals. 

He is also enthusiastic about teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, holding the concurrent appointments of Programme Director, SingHealth Pathology Residency Program and Director of Medical Student Education, SingHealth Pathology Academic Clinical Programme. In addition, he holds clinical associate professorships at Duke-NUS Medical School and School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University.
